Forehead / Brow Lift

Years of gravity and use can cause the eyebrows to droop or sag and frown lines to form on the forehead. These problems can be treated using forehead/brow lift surgery. This procedure is often coupled with a face lift and/or eyelid surgery to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Procedure
Forehead/brow lift surgery is conducted on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia with sedation. The surgery generally takes 2 to 3 hours. Several variations of the procedure exist and the surgeon will decide which technique is best for you depending on your features and the desired result.

Bicoronal: This technique consists of creating a single incision from ear to ear across the scalp. With this technique, the surgeon will remove excess skin, and therefore elevate your eyebrows to a more youthful position. Since the incision is in the hairline, it is hidden when healed.

Endoscopic Brow Lift: The procedure consists of placing a series of 2 to 4 small incisions in the scalp behind the hairline. Inserted into these incisions is an endoscope, a thin, elongated tube with a small light that is connected to a camera. This special instrument allows the surgeon to modify the muscles and achieve the proper brow position, maintained by suture fixation. No scalp skin is excised.

Contour ThreadLift: The ContourLift™ is an innovative facial rejuvenation procedure designed to gently elevate sagging brows, cheeks and jowls. Due to the unique design of the delicate filaments used in the procedure, the surrounding tissues act to hold them in place without the need for visible scars. The surgeon will make a tiny notch, usually hidden behind the hairline or tucked behind the ear, and the fine Contour Threads™ are then advanced along the previously marked contours so they create a firm hold on the underlying tissues. The delicate filaments do the work of holding, by becoming fixated to tissue as they are softly smoothed into place. Once they are gently positioned, your body generates new collagen bundles that surround each filament to maintain the lifting effect. The result is a refreshed, rejuvenated and natural look without the telltale signs of major surgery.

Recovery
The surgeon may or may not bandage the area after surgery. Generally, the eyes swell shut for a short period of time. It is important to keep the head elevated when lying down. Cold compresses can be used to help reduce swelling and discomfort. Sutures are removed within 10 days. Swelling and bruising is normal and will last about 2 weeks. Patients return to normal activity in 2 weeks, but may have to avoid strenuous activity for a longer period of time.
